POSITION PURPOSE
The Long Term Care (LTC) Resident Activity Trainee is a member of the health team who provides activities of preference and social opportunities to the residents of LTC. The individual in this position becomes familiar with our residents and facility while assisting the residents with both individual and group activities.  This individual is also enrolled in KPC-USS as a student in the Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) program with the goal of becoming certified as a CNA for the LTC Facility.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
  1. Must be at least eighteen (18) years old.
  2. Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
  3. Must complete eligibility requirements for SPH School-to-Work Program.
  4. Past experience working with the geriatric population preferred.
  5. Obtains and maintains BLS certification.
  6. Speaking, listening and basic writing skills to effectively communicate with others and to document activities provided. Ability to complete computer documentation as required.
  7. Must complete general orientation for LTC.

ENVIRONMENT:
South Peninsula Hospital is a combination 22-bed critical assess hospital and 28-bed skilled LTC Facility located on the southern end of the Kenai Peninsula.  The position requires walking and standing for prolonged periods, stooping, sitting, and the ability to lift large loads without injury to self or others.  Persons in this position may be exposed to blood-borne pathogens and infectious diseases, falls, needle stick injuries, and muscle strains.  Mechanical lifts are available for lifting residents as needed.  Generally, physical demands are moderate and most work is performed inside.  Working hours may fluctuate based on the demands of the work and scheduling needs.
