The Business Office Supervisor is a leadership role within the Patient Financial Services Department. The major purpose of this position is to support and assist the PFS Manager in regards to all personnel and scheduling requirements. The Business Office Supervisor working closely with the PFS Manager will coordinate all communication, evaluations, disciplinary action and schedules as they pertain to the staff of the Business Office. The Business Office Supervisor will model and exemplify SPH’s Values & Behaviors. Coordinates resources and activities of teams to ensure departmental goals are met; performs trend analysis and produces reports; identifies and resolves problems for the purpose of achieving the departmental goal of maximum revenue and cash flow.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
This is an exempt management position covered under the personnel policies of the Employee Manual for Managers and Confidential Employees. The incumbent may, from time to time, be required to work more than forty hours per week. The individual in this position understands and supports the overall goals of the administration of the hospital and manages the resources and activities of the Patient Financial Services Department to assist in accomplishing the hospital’s goals. The Business Office Supervisor must be self-directed; be able to work with minimal supervision; and be willing to accept the responsibility of assisting with the administering of the department. The Business Office Supervisor develops and implements policies and procedures for the operation of the departments as directed; maintains and improves the quality of care in accordance with state and federal regulations and the hospital’s quality improvement program; and works harmoniously with other departments of the hospital to improve and strengthen the operation of the entire hospital. The Business Office Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of Billing, Follow-Up and Receipting staff to include: coordinating employee schedules and resolving staffing issues under the direction of the PFS Manager, assure appropriately trained staff work within the department, and effectively utilizes all staffing resources for the maintenance of the units. The Business Office Supervisor reports to the PFS Manager. Serves as a liaison with all other hospital departments as well as community agencies when appropriate.
EDUCATION / TRAINING / EXPERIENCE:
The position of PFS Business Office Supervisor must possess the minimum of a high school diploma. Must have at least 3 years of billing, collections, and customer service experience, with 5 years preferred. This position requires a minimum of two to three years of supervisory experience working in a hospital patient account department with a broad base of experience in all positions associated with hospital patient account positions. Working knowledge and use of Medical Terminology. Knowledge of Health Information Management requirements. Effective speaking, listening, and basic writing skills are required to communicate with professional staff, to direct the work activity within the department, and to communicate with personnel at all levels. This individual must deal courteously and tactfully with coworkers and be able to contribute to a pleasant, positive working environment.
