DIRECTOR OF ACUTE CARE SERVICES (PCN 105)

POSITION PURPOSE: The Director of Acute-Care# Services is responsible for championing and ensuring the provision of high quality, safe, effective, and efficient nursing care and support services to patients in the following specialties: ED, Trauma, Forensics, Medical-Surgical, OB-GYN, ICU/Intermediate Care, Swing-bed, Observation, and Respiratory Therapies/CV Testing, Infusion/Chemotherapy Clinic, and Out-Patient Services. This Director will provide clinical leadership and role model respectful, constructive, interdisciplinary, and collaborative communications, critical thinking, and problem-solving.# He/she will positively influence and promote engagement and education of staff in evidence-based care practices. This position requires focus on patients# and providers# experiences and rounding to evaluate care, clinical needs, safety, and environmental integrity. The Director will seek organization and workflow opportunities with staff and providers. He/she will assure that quality improvement targets, nursing care policies and care protocols critical to patient outcomes, experiences, satisfaction, and discharge needs are prioritized, developed, and reviewed with staff, patients and providers.# He/she will assure that departmental and hospital-wide goals are supported and reviewed with staff and inter-disciplinary teams involved. Data dashboard(s) will be developed with staff, posted, monitored, problem-solved, and achievements acknowledged regularly.# He/she will set goals and objectives for practice standards in collaboration with the Medical Directors for ED/Trauma, Acute-Care Services, and the Chemotherapy Clinic. The Director is responsible for the Level 4 Trauma Designation requirements and serves as a key liaison with the Emergency Management Services (EMS) and community agencies. (i.e. South Peninsula Behavioral Health Services, Inc. and allied providers.)This Director reports to the CNO. KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE: The position of the Director Acute Care Services requires that the person possesses a current license to practice as a registered nurse in the state of Alaska.# A minimum of 5 years of experience in emergency and acute-care settings, with 3-5 years of supervisory, and/or management experience required.# Bachelor#s degree required.# The individual in this position must maintain current certifications in BLS and ACLS/PALS.# He/she must have the ability to successfully direct staffing resources, facilitate teamwork, prioritize activities, and respond in emergency-disaster-related needs. Speaking, active listening, and good writing skills are required to communicate with personnel and providers at all levels.# Experience in quality improvement projects/dashboards, Skills Labs, and educational programs required. Mathematical/analytical ability required for time card system, meeting budget and capital preparatory and approval processes, and calculation of drug dosages, statistical analyses and other presentational/operational activities. ENVIRONMENT: South Peninsula Hospital is a 22 bed Critical Access Hospital (CAH) located on the southern end of the Kenai Peninsula.# There is a 28-bed long-term care facility attached to the hospital.# The ED and Acute-Care Unit encompasses the Trauma/Emergency Services, Forensics Services, medical-surgical beds, step-down care, swing bed, outpatient observation, ICU, the Family Birthing Center, RT/outpatient RT procedures, Out-Patient Services/Clinics, and Chemotherapy/Infusion services.# The working environment is generally pleasant, is clean and well maintained.# The position requires a moderate amount of walking, standing, sitting, and the ability to lift 35 pounds.# Persons in this position are exposed to infectious diseases, including all types of blood borne pathogens, muscle strains, falls, and possible needles stick injuries.# Generally, physical demands are light and most work is performed inside.
