NATURE AND SCOPE:

The Director of Pharmacy provides clinical and administrative services.  The scope of this position involves professional and administrative responsibility for pharmacy services provided to all inpatient and outpatient services of South Peninsula Hospital.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

The position of Director of Pharmacy requires that the person possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy.   An advanced degree in Pharmacy (PharmD) or Administration is recommended.  This individual must meet state requirements for Pharmacist registration by the Alaska Board of Pharmacy.  A minimum of three years of experience in Hospital Pharmacy is required, with 3-5 years of management experience preferred.

 

ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Develop, regularly review and revise when necessary the departmental organizational structure to delineate authority, functional responsibilities and lines of communications.
  2. Make budget recommendations for capital equipment needs and operational expenses along with a projection of departmental revenues.
  3. Develop and implement departmental policies and procedures.
  4. Establish goals in measurable terms; evaluate and revise goal projection with appropriate documentation at least semi-annually.
  5. Interview, select, evaluate, counsel, commend or terminate employees according to departmental and hospital policy.
  6. Develop and implement departmental plan for employee development.
  7. Develop and implement departmental orientation plan for all levels.
  8. Maintain departmental records as required.
  9. Serve on committees as outlined in Administrative Policies and Procedures.
  10. Prepare departmental work schedules and approve payroll.
  11. Communicate and enforce hospital policies and procedures to departmental employees.
  12. Plan and implement new concepts of service to maintain currently with accepted practices.
  13. Advise Administration of departmental activities.
  14. Establish purchasing and inventory control responsibility.
  15. Responsible for development and implementation of a continuous quality improvement program.
  16. Develop and present in-service training programs for other institutional professionals.
  17. Provide coverage as a staff pharmacist as necessary.
  18. Oversite of 340B Program.
  19. Ensure compliance with USP797 and USP800.
  20. Oversite of controlled substance use in facility.
  21. Oncology & Infusion, Antibiotic Stewardship

 

ENVIRONMENT:

South Peninsula Hospital is a 22 bed critical access hospital (CAH) located on the southern end of the Kenai Peninsula.  There is a 28 bed long term care facility attached to the hospital.
