HOURS: This is a Full-Time position with 80 hours a pay period (1.0 FTE). The schedule may vary to meet department needs.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the nursing team and quality of patient care in the absence of the Director of Acute Care.
  • The Assistant Manager will assist in ensuring the nursing department provides consistent, attentive and efficient care to patients and is responsible for monitoring nursing staff, nursing activities and patient care. While also ensuring the hospital is compliant with federal, state and local standards.
  • Serve as a supporting role to the Acute Care Director by helping to manage the day-to-day operations and coordination of all communication, evaluations, projects, committee, disciplinary actions and schedules.
  • This position is non-union and exempt under the laws of the FLSA. 
  • The Acute Care Assistant Manager reports to the Acute Care Director.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Education/License/Certifications:
    • Minimum requirement of an associate’s degree from an accredited school of Nursing. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree is preferred.
    • Active license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska
    • Maintain current certifications: Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification (ACLS)
    • Must obtain and maintain certification within six (6) months of hire: Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification (PALS), Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC), Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC)
  • Work Experience:
    • Supervisory experience is required.
    • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in an acute care and/or intensive care setting is required.
    • OB/ED experience is preferred.
    • Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of the patient population served.
    • Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures as well as laws, regulations and guidelines that pertain to nursing care facilities.
    • Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, procedures, etc. that are necessary for providing quality care.
    • Ability to successfully direct staffing resources, facilitate teamwork, prioritize activities, and respond in emergency-disaster-related needs.
    • Effective speaking, listening, and writing skills are required to communicate with personnel and providers at all levels. 
    • Experience in quality improvement projects/dashboards, Skills Labs, and educational programs is required.
    • Mathematical/analytical ability required for time card system, meeting budget and capital preparatory and approval processes, and calculation of drug dosages, statistical analyses and other presentation and operational activities.
    • Demonstrated ability to lift up to 50 pounds without self-injury, as well ability to walk and stand for prolonged periods of time, including stooping and sitting.
    • Ability to wear personal protective equipment, including respirator for extended period of time.
