 POSITION PURPOSE:
The Assistant Facilities Engineer position will work as a member of the Engineering team to assist the engineering staff with the maintenance and preventative maintenance of mechanical equipment associated with the facility. This position will also assist with the repair and maintenance of office equipment, housekeeping, laundry and dietary equipment and some patient care equipment such as wheelchairs. This position will be assigned projects for light bulb replacement, relocation of furniture and equipment, grounds keeping, snow removal, painting, and clean-up of buildings, mechanical spaces, vehicles and equipment. 
 
NATURE AND SCOPE:
The Assistant Facilities Engineer will perform a variety of tasks and maintenance duties to meet the needs of the facility including but not limited to; work in plumbing, wall patching and painting, maintenance and cleanup of equipment, buildings, grounds and vehicles. This position will work closely under the guidance of the Facilities Engineers and is supervised by the Facilities Director.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

1. Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
2. Must possess a high school diploma or GED with some basic background in painting and general maintenance.
3. Must possess a valid Alaska driver’s license.
4. Must be able to read, write and understand English; and follow verbal and written instructions.
5. Must be able to pass a Job Function Test and meet the physical demands of the job.
6. Must have knowledge in the care and use of a variety of hand and power tools.
7. Must have basic computer skills.
8. Must have good communication and listening skills.
9. Must possess good organizational and decision-making skills with the ability to set appropriate priorities
10. Must be able to perform work with attention to detail, be flexible in work assignment be able to work competently in stressful situations.

ENVIRONMENT:
South Peninsula Hospital is a 22-bed Critical Access Hospital with an attached 28 bed Long Term Care Unit and a nine bed designated Level IV Trauma Center. The facility also includes several clinics and office buildings located off the main campus. The Assistant Facilities Engineer may work in all of these areas to maintain the buildings and associated equipment. The working environment while generally pleasant requires that this person be able to lift, bend, stoop, climb ladders and occasionally crawl through and work in tight, sometimes dirty spaces. This position participates in the handling of hazardous materials and working with potentially dangerous equipment that requires knowledge of safety programs such as lockout/tagout, and compliance with numerous regulatory guidelines for safe work practices. While performing the duties of this position, there may be exposure to inclement weather, wet and/or humid conditions, high temperatures, fumes, dust particles and chemicals. Working hours are usually during the-day, but may fluctuate, depending on various situations and work load.
