ABOUT THIS POSITION:
The Clinical Dietitian is responsible for providing medical nutrition therapy, nutrition education and counseling to hospitalized patients, long term care residents and outpatients. The Clinical Dietitian is responsible for screening patients and residents, identifying patients at nutritional risk and developing nutrition care plans to meet their nutritional needs. The Clinical Dietitian is responsible for inpatient and outpatient nutrition education for any disease process requiring medical nutrition therapy. The Clinical Dietitian participates in Long Term Care quarterly interdisciplinary care conferences and weekly Acute Care patient discharge planning meetings. The Clinical Dietitian assists the Nutrition Services Manager with menu planning and quality improvement/risk management program development and monitoring.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:- Bachelor’s Degree or advanced degree from an accredited institution with a major in food science, nutrition or foodservice administration.
- Must be a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) and licensed within the State of Alaska.
- Must maintain credentialing through the Commission on Dietetic Registration, the credentialing agency for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
- Must have excellent speaking and listening skills.
- Must have demonstrated experience providing medical nutrition therapy to patients with chronic/lifestyle diseases, such as diabetes and heart disease.
- Must have ability to calculate nutritional values of meal patterns and formulas and make recommendations for enteral feeding regimens.
- Must be able to deal courteously and tactfully with patients, residents, family members, hospital, clinic and medical staff members.
- Must be able to perform work with attention to detail, and maintain accurate and confidential records.
- Must be multi-task oriented with the ability to work competently during moments of stress and have the ability to prioritize tasks.
- Demonstrated ability to lift up to 25 pounds without self-injury, as well as ability to walk and stand for prolonged periods of time, including stooping and sitting.
- Must have computer and software capabilities to create and analyze data.
