RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide initial patient triage and registration services.

  • Assist in direct patient care in a clinical setting.

  • Perform routine medical procedures following established clinical protocols.

  • Provide administrative support to medical and nursing staff, as well as the Clinic Manager.

  • Coordinate communication between physicians, patients, staff, and hospital departments.

  • Maintain efficient workflow and handle escalated situations calmly and diplomatically.

  • Demonstrate effective organizational skills while multi-tasking and managing high-stress situations.

  • Maintain proper documentation and patient records in accordance with HIPAA standards.


KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or GED; additional healthcare certification (CNA, EMT-1, Health Care Specialist, or Medical Assistant) preferred.

  • 1-2 years of experience in a healthcare-related office/clerical position.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and other clerical software programs.

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information and maintain privacy standards.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and medical records/health information management.

  • Ability to deal courteously and tactfully with patients, their families, and staff, both in person and by phone.

  • Experience working in a hospital setting is highly preferred.


ENVIRONMENT:

The South Peninsula Hospital is a combined 22-bed Acute Care Critical Access Hospital and 28-bed Long Term Care facility located at the southern end of the Kenai Peninsula in South-Central Alaska. The position requires walking, standing for extended periods, stooping, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Exposures include infectious diseases, blood-borne pathogens, muscle strains, falls, and needle-stick injuries. Physical demands are moderate, and most work is performed indoors in a clean, well-maintained environment.

Working hours may fluctuate based on scheduling needs and patient census. The position requires the ability to reason, speak, and have basic manual dexterity. The work environment is generally positive, though psychological demands can be strenuous, especially during high-pressure situations.
