HOURS: This is a Full-Time position with 80 hours a pay period (1.0 FTE). Schedule may vary to meet department needs.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Director of Pharmacy is the responsible and accountable Pharmacist charged with organizing and overseeing the provision of pharmaceutical services to all hospital and long-term care patients, meeting hospital pharmacy and drug-related regulatory requirements of all governing agencies, managing staff Pharmacists and Pharmacy technicians, and working with other departments on pharmacy related matters.
  • Foster a team atmosphere to guide staff through change management and quality improvement initiatives for the delivery of high-quality patient care.
  • Implement processes and standards that lead to high patient satisfaction, efficient operations, and quality patient care. 
  • Budget: Monitor budgets throughout the fiscal year, make expenditure adjustments as needed; Make budget recommendations for capital equipment needs and operational expenses along with a projection of departmental revenues
  • Inventory & Formulary management: Ensure an adequate supply of pharmaceuticals is being maintained and replenished in a timely fashion; design and implement a system for purchasing and inventory control. Regularly review the hospital formulary.
  • The Director of Pharmacy is expected to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with others to foster a positive work environment and team-building atmosphere.
  • This position is non-union and exempt under FLSA laws.
  • The Director of Pharmacy reports to the Chief Operating Officer.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Education/License/Certifications:
    • State of Alaska Pharmacist License or can meet the Alaska Board of Pharmacy registration requirements for pharmacist licensure prior to starting.
    • An advanced degree in Pharmacy or Administration is recommended.
  • Work Experience:
    • Minimum of five (5)years of experience in hospital pharmacy and a minimum of three (3) years of management experience
    • Preference will also be given to candidates who possess experience in the following areas:
      • Epic Electronic Health Record Software – planned transition to Epic June 2025
      • 340B Drug Pricing Program requirements and compliance
      • Outpatient oncology &infusion clinic collaborations
      • Long-Term Care facility consulting and outpatient billing
      • Knowledge of policies and procedures of a pharmacy department sufficient to direct its operations and to provide effective patient care.
      • Skilled at identifying problems and recommending solutions related to patient care and satisfaction
  • Desired Attributes:
    • A high level of emotional intelligence, integrity, competence, and the ability to communicate and listen effectively is essential.
    • Effective organizational skills, ability to multi-task, and ability to perform critical thinking
    • Possess a strong work ethic and demonstrate diplomacy in critical conversations and the ability to build and maintain team cohesiveness
    • Competence with the Microsoft Office suite and various pharmacy-related computer programs and ability to troubleshoot problems

South Peninsula Hospital is a 22 bed critical access hospital (CAH) with a 28 bed long term care facility and 9 bed Emergency department that operates 24 hours per day.
