HOURS: This is a Full-Time position with 80 hours a pay period (1.0 FTE). The schedule may vary to meet department needs.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the professional and administrative duties pertaining to the Rehabilitation department staff who support the Acute Care, Swing bed, Long Term Care, Outpatient and Home Health areas of the hospital.Staff may include physical, occupational, speech therapists and aids or assistants, as well as student therapists.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations and coordination of all communication, evaluations, projects, committee, disciplinary actions and schedules.
  • Prepare operating budgets annually with input from the Finance department and Senior Leadership.
  • Prepare or review and post daily work schedules for efficiency and work flow in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • This position is non-union and exempt under the laws of the FLSA. 
  • This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Education/License/Certifications:
    • Minimum requirement of a Master’s or Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy or Speech Therapy from an accredited university recognized by the American Physical Therapy Association, American Occupational Therapy Association or American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
    • Current State of Alaska license in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy or Speech Language Pathology is preferred, however the equivalent license from another state shall be considered.
  • Work Experience:
    • Minimum of five to seven years of experience as a therapist is required.
    • Minimum of three to five years of leadership/managerial experience is required.
    • Must meet the conduct requirements as set forth by the hospital, and laws from the State of Alaska governing the practice of physical, occupational, or speech therapy.
    • Knowledge of the policies and procedures of a rehabilitation clinic that is sufficient to direct its operations and to provide effective patient care.
    • Skilled at identifying problems and recommending solutions related to patient care, clinical flow, and patient satisfaction.
    • Knowledge of governmental and compliance regulations as they relate to rehabilitation practices.
    • Must be able to read, write and understand English; follow verbal and written instructions.
    • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job.
    • Must have strong computer skills.
    • Must have strong communication and listening skills.
    • Must have strong organizational and decision-making skills with the ability to determine appropriate priorities.
    • Must be able to perform work with attention to detail, be flexible in work assignments and work competently in stressful situations.
    • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to collaborate with others, build consensus, make sound judgments and gain the trust and endorsement of leaders, peers, and staff.

ENVIRONMENT:

South Peninsula Hospital is a 22 bed critical access hospital (CAH) with a 28 bed long term care facility and a 9 bed Emergency department that operates 24 hours per day. The hospital is located on the southern end of the Kenai Peninsula.  Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, and Ergonomic works are part of the inpatient and outpatient service lines operated by the hospital. The rehabilitation offices provide inpatient and outpatient therapy services for pediatrics through adults, patient scheduling services, registration, pre-authorization, collections, and receipting functions for South Peninsula Rehabilitation.  There are two primary locations where rehabilitation services are provided, onsite (Hospital) and offsite (Outpatient satellite location).  The position requires a moderate amount of mobility. The ability to perform critical thinking, effective communication, and have basic manual dexterity is essential. Physical demands are moderate and may include standing or sitting for prolonged periods, walking, stooping and occasional lifting. Emotional intelligence demands of the position are high. Most work is performed indoors, however the locations overseen by this position will require some in-town travel.
