HOURS: This is a Full-Time position with 80 hours a pay period (1.0 FTE). The schedule may vary to meet department needs.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directs and oversees the overall policies, objectives, and initiatives of an organization's revenue cycle activities to optimize the patient financial interaction along the care continuum.
  • Reviews, designs, and implements processes surrounding admissions, pricing, billing, third party payer relationships, compliance, collections and other financial analyses to ensure that revenue cycle is effective and properly utilized.
  • Tracks numerous metrics related to the patient engagement cycle including record coding error rates and billing turnaround times to develop sound revenue cycle analysis and reporting.
  • Manages relations with payers and providers to generate maximum reimbursement and an acceptable level of denials.
  • Develops functional strategies and specific objectives for reporting to department managers and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure.
  • This position is non-union and exempt under the laws of the FLSA. 
  • This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Education/License/Certifications:
    • Required to have a minimum Bachelors’ degree
    • A Master’s degree or equivalent in Business Administration with focus on business in healthcare if preferred.
    • Revenue Cycle certifications from HFMA, AAPC, or AAHAM is preferred.
  • Work Experience:
    • This position requires a minimum of ten years of experience working in the Revenue Cycle of a hospital with a broad base of experience in all positions associated with the Revenue Cycle of which 3 to 5 years was at a management level position. 
    • Ability in business math and basic statistical analysis is required for data compilation, analysis and presentation of conclusions.
    • The incumbent must be able to deal courteously and tactfully with patients, visitors and physicians; explain policy and procedure to patients and their families; follow established departmental policies and procedures; maintain accurate records; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; and contribute to a pleasant, positive working environment. 
    • Must have strong communication and listening skills.
    • Must have strong organizational and decision-making skills with the ability to determine appropriate priorities.
    • Must be able to perform work with attention to detail, be flexible in work assignments and work competently in stressful situations.
    • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to collaborate with others, build consensus, make sound judgments and gain the trust and endorsement of leaders, peers, and staff.

ENVIRONMENT:

South Peninsula Hospital is a 22 bed critical access hospital (CAH) with a 28 bed long term care facility and a 9 bed Emergency department that operates 24 hours per day. The hospital is located on the southern end of the Kenai Peninsula.  Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, and Ergonomic works are part of the inpatient and outpatient service lines operated by the hospital. The rehabilitation offices provide inpatient and outpatient therapy services for pediatrics through adults, patient scheduling services, registration, pre-authorization, collections, and receipting functions for South Peninsula Rehabilitation.  There are two primary locations where rehabilitation services are provided, onsite (Hospital) and offsite (Outpatient satellite location).  The position requires a moderate amount of mobility. The ability to perform critical thinking, effective communication, and have basic manual dexterity is essential. Physical demands are moderate and may include standing or sitting for prolonged periods, walking, stooping and occasional lifting. Emotional intelligence demands of the position are high. Most work is performed indoors, however the locations overseen by this position will require some in-town travel.
