POSITION PURPOSE
The Education Development Specialist plans, implements, and evaluates educational activities and programs to meet the needs of South Peninsula Hospital (SPH) staff, serving as a subject matter expert in education best practices and adult learning theory. The Education Development Specialist provides educational resources and professional development support to all clinical and non-clinical staff at SPH.
NATURE & SCOPE
The Education Development Specialist works within the Education Department to plan, design, and deliver education to staff. This position assists the department in identifying and assessing staff education needs throughout all areas of the organization, as well as assisting in managing the department’s ongoing large-scale programs. The Education Development Specialist also functions as a Nurse Planner in establishing continuing nursing education activities in collaboration with the Primary Nurse Planner, ensuring all applicable training meets the regulations required by the Montana Nurses Association.
The Education Development Specialist position is exempt and confidential, covered under the personnel policies of the Employee Manual for Non-Union Employees. In accordance with the manual's provisions, the incumbent may be subject to a six-month probationary period. The incumbent may also be required, at times, to work more than forty hours per week, which is compensated by the annual salary. The Education Development Specialist reports directly to the Education Supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
- Education: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing. BSN degree required. MSN degree preferred.
- Experience: A minimum of 1 year of clinical nursing experience is required. Previous experience in planning, implementing, and/or evaluating education is preferred.
- Licensure: Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Alaska
- Certifications:
- Current BLS, ACLS, & PALS
- Instructor cards for BLS, ACLS, & PALS within 12 months of hire
- English Language: Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently
- Other Qualifications: The individual in this position should be self-motivated and passionate about education. Successful candidates should excel in:

- Collaborating with a variety of healthcare team members effectively
