POSITION PURPOSE:

The Environmental Services Coordinator assists the Manager of Environmental Services in the day to day operation of the Housekeeping and Laundry departments and performs duties in the scope of the EVS technician job description.

NATURE AND SCOPE:

The Environmental Services Coordinator (ESC) assists the Manager of Environmental Services with the day-to-day operations. This will include but not limited to scheduling of work, coordination of the daily work for the housekeeping and laundry staff, orientation and training of new housekeepers and laundry workers, assist in facilitating communication among EVS staff and provide input for employee evaluations, as well as inventory and ordering of supplies and equipment. The coordinator position may participate in interviews for the hiring of new staff.  This position will also be scheduled for routine shift work. The ESC may provide clerical support to the Manager of Environmental Services. This is an hourly position under the Alaska Wage and Hour law, and is a classification covered under the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The position is supervised by the Manager of Environmental Services.

EDUCATION / TRAINING / EXPERIENCE:

  • Requires a minimum of a high school diploma or GED
  • Demonstrated leadership ability
  • At least three years experience in a hospital environmental services department is preferred
  • Must obtain the Association of the Healthcare Environment Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Technician Trainer program within 1 year

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:

Genuine interest in maintaining a good working relationship with team members, facility-wide managers and administration.  Able to operate such general office machines as a personal computer and photocopier.  This individual should be proficient in computer software applications that include word processing and spreadsheets (MSWord and Excel). The incumbent must have a high level of interpersonal skills to coordinate the functions of the environmental services department. The position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact and diplomacy. Work requires attention to detail in composing, typing, data entry and proofing materials, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines.  Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple tasks and demands. This person must have good oral and written communication skills. The coordinator position must be able to make many decisions independently and be able to determine when problems or decisions should be brought to the Manager of Environmental Services.

ENVIRONMENT:

The South Peninsula Hospital is a combined 22 bed Acute care hospital and 28 bed long term care facility located at the southern end of the Kenai Peninsula in South-Central Alaska.  The working environment is generally pleasant, clean and well maintained.  The position requires a moderate amount of mobility, the ability to reason, speak and have basic manual dexterity.  There is the need to attend meetings and classes both inside and outside of the hospital setting and to participate in interviews or provide training within the hospital building and off-site facilities.  Physical demands are moderate and may include sitting, standing for prolonged periods, walking, stooping and lifting.
