HEALTH INFORMATICS SPECIALIST:
POSITION PURPOSE:
The primary function of the Health Informatics Specialist (HIS) is to provide real-time support and training to providers and support staff in the south Peninsula Hospital (SPH) Clinics' electronic health record (EHR) and other clinic based systems. Address problems with the system(s), implement processes that streamline reporting, and promote future and present system functionality. This position is part of a team-based approach in providing patient-centered care. The HIS understands the clinical requirements of the information management system, and has the technical knowledge to create or modify the software.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
The position of the Health Informatics Specialist is instrumental in the day to day coordination and maintenance of the health information technology. The HIS will strive to find more effective ways to support, troubleshoot and identifying opportunities for clinical information system and training improvements. This position reports to the Director of Health Information Systems and receives additional guidance from the OP Services Health Informatics Analyst.
EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
- Must have a High School diploma or GED.
- Formal training in information systems or certification as Medical Assistant preferred.
- Two years recent clinical experience in a clinic environment preferred; alternate direct patient care and clinical applications experience considered.
- Knowledge of computer network operations with minimum two years of experience working in a computerized clinical system or other information systems environment is preferred.
- Project management experience is helpful.
- Practical knowledge/experience of PC business software including word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications is required.
- Demonstrated teaching skills highly preferred.
- Must be able to work independently.
- Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- High attention to detail and producing quality work is essential for this position.
- Must be well-organized and able to work in a fast-paced environment and keep track of multiple tasks and projects.
- Must have a technical aptitude of computer systems.
- Must have accurate keyboarding and data entry skills.
HEALTH INFORMATICS ANALYST - OUTPATIENT SERVICES
POSITION PURPOSE:
The primary function of the Health Informatics Analyst (HIA) is to champion the outpatient clinics' electronic health record (EHR) application and other clinic based systems, train and provide technical support to the clinic support staff and providers, resolve process issues with the EHR, develop and streamline reporting, and promote enhanced system functionality including development, implementation and continuation of outpatient clinical quality programs. This position is part of a team-based approach in providing patient-centered care. The incumbent understands the clinical support needs from the health information system (HIS), and has the technical knowledge to leverage the EHR to meet clinic requirements, including making modifications to the software.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
The nature of this position is instrumental in the day to day coordination and maintenance of the health information technology. The incumbent will analyze the data to find more effective ways to deliver care by continuous support, troubleshooting and identifying opportunities for clinical information system improvements. The incumbent will work closely with SPH clinic(s) staff and providers, striving to resolve identified issues within the SPH Clinic’s software systems by providing the most effective processes, promote enhanced system functionality, and identify opportunities for clinical health system improvements. Will also guide processes and training to ensure success in quality programs. This position reports to the Director of Health Information Systems.

- An associate’s degree in information systems is required.
- In lieu of a degree, must have five years of relevant work experience in the Informatics field.
- Five years recent clinical experience in a clinic environment preferred; alternate direct patient care and clinical applications experience considered.
- Practical knowledge and experience of PC business software including word processing, spreadsheets, and Outlook is required.
- Knowledge of computer network operations with a minimum of three years of experience working in a computerized clinical system or other information systems environment is highly preferred.

ENVIRONMENT:
South Peninsula Hospital is a combined 22 bed critical access hospital, 28 bed Long Term Care facility, orthopedic, behavioral health, and family practice clinics located at the southern end of the Kenai Peninsula. The position requires walking, standing for extended periods, stooping and the ability to lift 50 pounds. Persons in this position are exposed to infectious diseases, including blood-borne pathogens, muscle strains, falls, and needle stick injuries. Generally, physical demands are moderate and most work is performed inside. Working hours may fluctuate based on scheduling needs and patient census.
