Health Unit Clerk - Long Term Care

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain and update accurate registration records for LTC residents based on care level needs.
- Act as a liaison between departments, outside entities, and the LTC unit to ensure seamless communication.
- Provide a welcoming presence and responsive service to residents, families, and visitors.
- Manage administrative tasks such as data entry, charge entry, filing, and phone communication.
- Assist in coordinating documentation and medical records in compliance with care standards.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
- Must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or GED.
- Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) certification through the State of Alaska.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Preferred: one year of healthcare experience or coursework in medical-related subjects.
- Working knowledge of medical terminology strongly preferred.
- Proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Word and Outlook; CPSI system experience is a plus.
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal) for interacting with staff, residents, and families.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and adapt to changing priorities.
- Physical Requirement: Ability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, and lift moderate loads; use of mechanical lifts available when working with residents.
ENVIRONMENT:
Based in a 28-bed skilled Long Term Care facility connected to South Peninsula Hospital’s 22-bed critical access unit, this role offers a clean, well-maintained, and caring work environment. Work is primarily performed indoors, with duties involving both mobility and desk-based tasks.
Job hazards include potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens, infectious diseases, needle stick injuries, and physical strain, requiring the use of proper protective equipment and safe lifting techniques.
