HEALTH UNIT CLERK (REQ 2947)

The Health Unit Clerk assists all patients with performing on-site medical swabbing specifically for COVID-19 as a means of prevention and testing. This position is responsible for coordinating all onsite COVID-19 swabbing, testing preparation and ensuring the results are processed and communicated according to internal procedures. Facilitates maximum reimbursement for patient services through accurate and complete registration of patients presenting for care. They must capture and verify all necessary information to properly register all patients obtaining a COVID-19 swab or receiving a COVID-19 vaccination. All employees must be able to communicate effectively and pleasantly both over the phone and in-person. Accurate data entry and documentation must be the utmost most importance to ensure seamless processing while safeguarding patient confidentiality.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
This is a bargaining unit position covered under the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Teamsters Local 959. This will be an hourly, non-exempt position and eligible for overtime for time worked in excess of 8, 10, or 12 hours in a day depending on the scheduled time or more than 40 hours in a week.
The Health Unit Clerk (HUC) is well versed in registration and admitting procedures, computer systems, maintenance of the active medical record, proper and accurate procedures for COVID-19 swabbing and receptionist duties. This position is an important key to customer service. The Health Unit Clerk will report to the Chief Nursing Officer.
EDUCATION / TRAINING / EXPERIENCE:
- Requires a minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Medical experience is preferred but not required.
- Experience in front office procedures or electronic medical records is preferred.
- Must have demonstrated good communication skills and legible handwriting.
- Must have at least two years of experience working with computers and have the ability to use Microsoft Office Applications.
- Competency in the use of a standard photocopier, FAX machine, Zetafax and multi-line switchboard phone system.
The South Peninsula Hospital is a combined 22 bed Acute care hospital and 28 bed long term care facility located at the southern end of the Kenai Peninsula in South-Central Alaska. The working environment is generally pleasant, clean and well maintained. The position requires a moderate amount of mobility. The ability to reason, speak and have basic manual dexterity is essential. There is the need to attend meetings and classes both inside and outside of the Hospital setting and to participate in interviews or provide training within the Hospital building. Physical demands are moderate and may include sitting, standing for prolonged periods, walking, stooping and occasional lifting. Most work is performed inside and the work is generally of a positive nature.
