POSITION PURPOSE:

The specific nature of this position is overall coordination of infusions, treatments, specialty clinic needs, and providing support and safe medicine delivery of chemotherapy agents. The Infusion Supervisor will facilitate the scheduling of outpatient infusions in conjunction with Pharmacy, physicians, ancillary healthcare providers. The Infusion Supervisor will oversee all staff who work in this department. The Infusion Supervisor coordinates and provides nursing care to patients utilizing the Nursing Process and within the framework of standards for nursing practice, as established by the Alaska State Board of Nursing, the Oncology Nursing Society and the Infusion policies and procedures. The Infusion Supervisor is first level of leadership, which include dayto-day operations and delegation of work to other levels of employees. The Supervisor reports to the Emergency Department Director and is a part of the management team at South Peninsula Hospital.

NATURE AND SCOPE:

The Infusion Supervisor is a Registered Nurse operating within the parameters of the Infusion Services at South Peninsula Hospital. The Supervisor is accountable for the delivery of quality care to patients and families, according to the individualized needs of the patient and following the nursing process in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act. The Infusion Supervisor promotes professional development as an integral part of nursing practice. The position coordinates patient care activities with other members of the outpatient clinic and specialty clinic services. The Infusion Supervisor performs all duties in a manner that supports the team concept, and reflects South Peninsula Hospital Core Values.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Graduate of an accredited / approved School of Nursing.
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska.
  • Current Certified Oncology RN and Chemotherapy Infusion Certification
  • Current Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  • One-year Registered Nurse experience and 5 years preferred in oncology/infusion.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English clearly.
  • Schedule varies to meet department needs.
  • Must be able to prioritize multiple tasks, and work with a variety of health care team members effectively.
  • Must have knowledge of scheduling clinics and clients.

ENVIRONMENT:

The position requires walking, standing for extended periods, stooping and the ability to lift 50 pounds. Computer work is required and a portion of the coordinator’s activities involves phone work and patient follow up. Persons in this position are exposed to infectious diseases, including blood-borne pathogens, muscle strains, falls, and needle stick injuries. A mechanical lift is available for lifting patients when needed. Generally, physical demands are moderate and most work is performed inside. Working hours may fluctuate based on scheduling needs and patient census.
