This Lead Billing Specialist position is located in our Patient Financial Services department.

Hours: 

This is a full-time benefited position, 40 hours per week, day shift, Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 4:00pm.

What you'll do:

  • Support the Patient Financial Services (PFS) Department and Manager by ensuring insurance verification, charging, billing, coding, and receipting occur in a timely manner to prevent any disruption in the cash flow of this facility or from maintaining low Accounts Receivable (A/R) days.
  • Study and interpret changes in insurance regulations, supervise correspondence with 3rd-party insurers who provide information to assist in determining appropriate reimbursement levels, and provide in-servicing to patient account representatives.
  • If need be, update Management and Revenue Cycle Committee on preferred CPT codes or codes associated with disallowed reimbursement.
  • Responsible for the coordination of Medical Staff, Allied Health Practitioner, and Facility credentialing and recredentialing in accordance with the guidelines from the appropriate regulatory agencies.
  • Bill Medicare and LTC Medicaid accounts and able to fill in for the Government Follow-up Biller and Commercial Billing Specialist(s) to provide coverage in their absence.

What you'll need:

  • Possess an Associate's Degree in the related field, or may substitute a high school diploma and a minimum of four to six years experience in computerized hospital patient accounts billing.
  • Work in a healthcare environment for a minimum of six years is required,
  • Billing experience in an acute care hospital setting is required.
  • Possess in-depth knowledge of billing systems appropriate for inpatient and outpatient services. These include, but are not limited to, diagnostic medicine, emergency room, outpatient surgery, observation, general medicine/surgery, dental, orthopedics, obstetrics and newborn.
  • Have excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must also be able to manage multiple concurrent tasks with exceptional organizational skills.
  • Past experience in a supervisory or leadership function strongly preferred.
  • Requires keyboarding skills and knowledge of various computer applications including, but not limited to: word processing, spreadsheets, databases and graphic presentation software. Must be able to operate general office machines including personal computer, FAX machine and photocopier.
  • This position must present a professional appearance, deal courteously and respectfully with patients, be able to learn and follow established departmental policies, be able to perform work with attention to detail, be able to maintain accurate records and be able to contribute to a pleasant, positive working environment.
