STARTING SALARY: $28.54 - $30.29/hr and up, depending on experience

POSITION PURPOSE:
The Reimbursement Specialist reviews the contents of inpatient and ambulatory records identifying appropriate ICD-10-CM and CPT codes to the highest specificity using appropriate coding guidelines, thus ensuring all coded records meet SPH, State and Federal requirements. Both inpatient and ambulatory coding is performed in a timely and accurate manner to meet ethical standards, compliance audits, and appropriate statistical and disease indices data collection requirements and for optimal reimbursement.

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Medical Records Coder 2 position requires the incumbent be at least 18 years of age with a minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent along with at least 2 years of previous healthcare business experience.   RHIT, CPC or CCS credentialing preferred. If credentials are absent, must be eligible or pending.  Must have working knowledge and use of medical terminology and auditing and utilization review.  
  2.  A minimum of two-years coding experience preferably in an acute care hospital setting. Possess in-depth knowledge of coding/classification systems appropriate for inpatient and outpatient services. These include, but are not limited to, diagnostic medicine, emergency room, outpatient surgery, observation, general medicine/surgery, orthopedics, obstetrics and newborn.
  3. Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills. Incumbent must also be able to manage multiple concurrent tasks with exceptional organizational skills. The position requires keyboarding skills, and knowledge of coding computer applications. Must be able to operate general office machines including personal computer, FAX machine and photocopier.

South Peninsula Hospital is a 22 bed critical access hospital (CAH) located on the southern end of the Kenai Peninsula.  There is a 28 bed long term care facility attached to the hospital.
