RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Verify and process refunds and appeals for Medicaid, Veterans Administration, and Commercial Insurance claims.

 

  • Review insurance accounts regularly and follow up with customer support to expedite claim resolutions.

 

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Medicaid, VA, and Commercial Insurance billing policies and procedures.

 

  • Communicate effectively and professionally with patients and insurance representatives over the phone and in person.

 

  • Accurately document account activities, ensuring all records are maintained and up to date.

 

  • Operate office equipment, including computers, adding machines, fax machines, and multi-line phone systems.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma.

 

  • Two to three years of experience in computerized hospital patient accounts.

 

  • Proficiency in operating office equipment and navigating insurance billing systems.

 

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow departmental policies.

 

  •  Professional demeanor with excellent customer service skills.

 

  • Ability to contribute to a positive and collaborative work environment.


ENVIRONMENT:
The South Peninsula Hospital is a combined 22-bed Acute Care Critical Access Hospital and 28-bed Long Term Care facility located at the southern end of the Kenai Peninsula in South-Central Alaska.  The Patient Financial Services Department provides reception, registration, billing, collections and receipting functions for the hospital and Long-Term Care.  The working environment is generally pleasant, clean and well-maintained.  The position requires a moderate amount of mobility.  The ability to reason, speak and have basic manual dexterity is essential.  Physical demands are moderate and may include sitting or standing for prolonged periods, walking, stooping and occasional lifting.  Psychological demands can be very strenuous.  Most work is performed inside and the work is generally of a positive nature.
