RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide exceptional customer service while building trust and rapport with patients and families.
  • Monitor patient account health and pursue the collection of outstanding balances.
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity in self-pay billing and revenue cycle processes.
  • Apply knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance billing policies.
  • Adhere to legal and ethical collection practices, including the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
  • Communicate effectively with patients in person and over the phone to resolve financial concerns.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 2 years collection experience in computerized hospital patient accounts
  • Obtain and maintain Certified Application Counselor and Medicaid Presumptive Eligibility status
  • Operate office equipment (phones, printers, scanners, faxes, etc.)
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, legal forms, legal proceedings and insurance practices. 
  • Presents a professional appearance, deals courteously and respectfully with patients, and follows established departmental policies,
  • Perform work with attention to detail and maintain accurate records
  • Contribute to a pleasant, positive working environment


ENVIRONMENT:
The South Peninsula Hospital is a combined 22-bed Acute Care Critical Access Hospital and 28-bed Long Term Care facility located at the southern end of the Kenai Peninsula in South-Central Alaska.  The Patient Financial Services Department provides reception, registration, billing, collections and receipting functions for the hospital and Long-Term Care.  The working environment is generally pleasant, clean and well-maintained.  The position requires a moderate amount of mobility.  The ability to reason, speak and have basic manual dexterity is essential.  Physical demands are moderate and may include sitting or standing for prolonged periods, walking, stooping and occasional lifting.  Psychological demands can be very strenuous.  Most work is performed inside and the work is generally of a positive nature.
