PATIENT ACCOUNT REP 3 - MEDICARE BILLING & ACCOUNTS RECEIVABLE (REQ 3858)

POSITION PURPOSE
Under the general direction of their manager, the Medicare/VA Billing and Accounts Receivable representative verifies all the information necessary to properly submit clean claims . Reviews all government insurance accounts on a consistent basis and will telephone customer support to expedite processing for promptness of payment. 

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE 

• Must possess a high school diploma or GED equivilant 
• Must possess a minimum of five years of experience with billing and follow-up, preferably with Medicare. 
• They must have extensive knowledge of CMS regulations and billing rules.
• Must be experienced in computerized hospital patient accounts systems.
• This individual should be able to operate such general office machines as a typewriter, computer, adding machine by touch, photocopier, FAX and multi-line switchboard phone system. 
• This position must present a professional appearance, deal courteously and respectfully with patients, be able to learn and follow established departmental policies, be able to perform work with attention to detail, be able to maintain accurate records and be able to contribute to a pleasant, positive working environment.

ENVIRONMENT 
The South Peninsula Hospital is a combined 22 bed Acute Care Critical Access Hospital and 28 bed Long Term Care facility located at the southern end of the Kenai Peninsula in South-Central Alaska.  The PFS Clinic Billing Department provides reception, registration, billing, collections and receipting functions for the hospital and Long Term Care.  The working environment is generally pleasant, clean and well maintained.  The position requires a moderate amount of mobility.  The ability to reason, speak and have basic manual dexterity is essential.  Physical demands are moderate and may include sitting, standing for prolonged periods, walking, stooping and occasional lifting.  Psychological demands can be very strenuous.  Most work is done inside and the work is generally of a positive nature.
