The PFS Financial Analyst is a leadership role within the Patient Financial Services Department. The major purpose of this position is to support and assist the Revenue Cycle Director in the areas of reporting, analysis and researching billing or payment issues throughout all areas of patient financial services including registration, financial counseling, billing, cash posting, payer enrollment, denials, and accounts receivable.  The financial analyst will model and exemplify SPH’s Values & Behaviors.
This is a confidential position covered under the personnel policies of the Employee Manual for Managers and Confidential Employees.  The incumbent may, from time to time, be required to work more than forty hours per week.  The individual in this position understands and supports the overall goals of the administration of the hospital and manages the resources and activities of the Patient Financial Services Department to assist in accomplishing the hospital’s goals. The Financial Analyst must be self-directed; be able to work with minimal supervision; and be willing to accept the responsibility of assisting with the administering of the department.  The Financial Analyst maintains and improves the quality of care in accordance with state and federal regulations and the hospital’s policies and quality improvement program; and works harmoniously with other departments of the hospital to improve and strengthen the operation of the entire hospital.  The Patient Access Supervisor reports to the Revenue Cycle Director and serves as a liaison with all other hospital departments, as well as community agencies where appropriate. 
South Peninsula Hospital is a combined 22 bed acute care and 28 bed long term care facility located at the southern end of the Kenai Peninsula. The environment is generally pleasant, is clean and well maintained. The position requires walking, sitting for prolonged periods, stooping, and standing. Generally, physical demands are light and most work is performed inside. Working hours may fluctuate based on the demands of the work.

This individual must have a working knowledge and use of medical terminology, revenue cycle operations, insurance billing, and federal regulations associated with billing are requirements. The applicant must have excellent skills utilizing Excel and Outlook and have great attention to detail. Effective speaking, listening, and basic writing skills are required to communicate with professional staff, to direct the work activity within the department, and to communicate with personnel at all levels. 


  • Minimum – High school diploma or GED; Associate’s degree preferred.
Work Experience:
  • Minimum - Three (3) years of revenue cycle experience required with preference given to those with billing experience. 
  • Experience with reporting functions in Evident and Athena is preferred.
  • Minimum - A certification in revenue cycle is required, or must be obtained within the first year of employment in this position.  At minimum this certification should be a Certified Revenue Cycle Specialist through AAHAM. Other certifications may be considered to meet this requirement through AAPC or HFMA.
