POSITION PURPOSE:
The primary purpose of the Purchasing Technician (OR) is to perform the duties associated with the ordering, receiving, stocking, and distribution of medical supplies and equipment.  This position performs such duties as filling supply and equipment orders, processing supply and equipment charges into an automated system and receiving medical supplies and equipment for the Surgery Department.

EDUCATION / TRAINING / EXPERIENCE:
  • The position of Purchasing Technician (OR) requires the incumbent to possess a minimum of a high school diploma.
  • Prefer to have two to three years of experience in the OR environment in a clinical or technical position or similar supply experience in materials/purchasing.

ENVIRONMENT:
The Purchasing Technician (OR) works in South Peninsula Hospital’s OR department.   The working environment is generally high stressed and demanding. Frequent interruptions, prolonged standing and walking may occur.  Some bending, stooping, squatting, pushing, pulling and lifting of medium to heavy weight boxes may occur during the receiving and stocking process.  Psychological demands can be very strenuous.  Most work is performed inside and the work is generally of a positive nature.
