QUALITY SUPPORT SPECIALIST:
PURPOSE:
The primary function of the Quality Support Specialist (QSS) is to focus on overall organizational performance of quality activities; working to achieve established goals, quality reporting and supporting the Balanced Scorecard, and sustain and demonstrate improvement over time. The QSS will be responsible for developing advanced knowledge of QM department software platforms to support quality activities and function as a Super-User. Assisting with support to and provide coverage within the department is expected.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
The Quality Support Specialist is a confidential position. The Quality Support Specialist will be responsible for tracking, analyzing and reporting quality data according to the Quality and Strategic Plans as well as to meet requirements of grants, participation with the State hospital association and Federal quality contractors to ensure compliance with all regulatory, State, Federal and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) standards. Provides support to departments and clinics with quality dashboards and improvement activities. Actively participates and/or facilitates committee activities related to quality improvement as requested. Understanding of clinical record documentation and medical terminology is necessary. Assists and supports the QM team as needed or requested. Professionalism, organizational skills, good critical thinking skills and judgment are essential as well as the ability to communicate well both orally and in written format. The Quality Support Specialist reports to the Director of Quality Management.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
- Require an associates degree in a field supporting the nature and scope of the position.
- Combination of education and relevant experience which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform required duties may be considered in lieu of the degree.
- Hospital or medical setting experience required along with understanding of clinical record documentation and best practice standards.
- Experience with electronic health record review and documentation; specifically, Evident (required), Point-Click-Care and Athena is preferred.
- Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) certification preferred or obtained within one year of meeting qualifications.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office to include Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel and the ability to develop charts, graphs and calculate numerical values required.
- Must have strong work ethics, excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Confidentiality, professionalism, good critical thinking skills and judgment are essential.
QUALITY MANAGEMENT RN
PURPOSE:
The primary function of the Quality Management (QM) RN is to focus on overall organizational performance of quality activities; working to achieve established goals, quality reporting and supporting the Balanced Scorecard, and sustain and demonstrate improvement over time. The QM RN will be responsible for developing advanced knowledge of QM department software platforms to support quality activities and function as a Super-User. Assisting with support to and provide coverage within the department is expected.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
The Quality Management RN is a confidential position. The QM RN will be responsible for tracking, analyzing and reporting quality data according to the Quality and Strategic Plans as well as to meet requirements of grants, participation with the State hospital association and Federal quality contractors to ensure compliance with all regulatory, State, Federal and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) standards. Responsible for timely annual and quarterly reporting of CMS Core Measures to include Sepsis, Acute Myocardial Infarction, Stroke cases and others as identified by CMS, Sate and/or grant funding. Take a lead role in follow-up to Root -Cause-Analysis activities. Provides support to departments and clinics with quality dashboards and improvement activities. Actively participates and/or facilitates committee activities related to quality improvement as requested. Experience with clinical record documentation and familiar with best practice standards necessary for clinical chart reviews and analysis. Assists and supports the QM team as needed or requested. Professionalism, organizational skills, good critical thinking skills and judgment are essential as well as the ability to communicate well both orally and in written format. The QM RN reports to the Director of Quality Management.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
- Require a bachelor's degree in nursing.
- Current registered nurse license in the state of Alaska.
- Combination of education and relevant experience which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform required duties may be considered in lieu of the degree.
- Required minimum of three (3) years hospital or medical setting experience along with the understanding of clinical record documentation and best practice standards.
- Experience with electronic health record review and documentation; specifically, Evident (required), Point-Click-Care and Athena is preferred.
- Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) certification preferred or obtained within one year of meeting qualifications.

ENVIRONMENT:
South Peninsula Hospital is a 22-bed Critical Access Hospital with a 28-bed Long Term Facility located at the southern end of the Kenai Peninsula. The working environment is pleasant, clean, and well-maintained. The position requires a high degree of mobility moving between areas of the hospital including occasional trips between campus buildings on and off site of the main hospital grounds. Physical demands are moderate and may include sitting for prolonged periods, standing, walking, stooping, and occasional lifting. The schedule for this position is eight-hour shifts, Monday through Friday but may fluctuate based on departmental needs.
