KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
The General Surgery Clinic Receptionist position requires the minimum of a high school diploma. Three years experience in computerized patient accounts/administrative assistant/insurance preauthorization preferred. This individual will possess excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks with exceptional organizational skills. Excellent keyboard skills (accuracy and speed) and knowledge of various computer applications, including but not limited to: Microsoft Word and Excel are required. This position must present a professional appearance, deal courteously and respectfully with clients, be able to learn and follow established policies, be able to perform work with attention to detail, be able to maintain accurate records, be able to maintain strict confidentiality, and be able to contribute to a pleasant, positive working environment.
PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES include but are not limited to:
- Maintains office patient schedule, receives, registers, schedules, and directs patients and visitors as appropriate.
- Keeps up-to-date on changes to the current computer network that affects patient registration, scheduling, and charting.
- Checks and verifies patient contact/insurance eligibility and benefit coverage and makes corrections if necessary..
- Communicates to patients their financial liabilities; benefit limitations, and payment options prior to scheduled appointments or services being rendered as appropriate.
- Directs work flow to staff in such a way as to maximize productivity and improve quality of care. Confers with staff to manage patient’s care as a team.
- Maintains appropriate records to ensure the expeditious retrieval of patient information.
- Follows scheduled work schedule, is punctual and reliable.
- Verifies patient’s information/benefits and eligibility and makes corrections to registration in the EMR system if necessary.
- Registers patients accurately. Knows registration requirements for the current EMR.
- Answers patient questions in an efficient, polite and professional manner.
- Communicates effectively and pleasantly both over the telephone and in person.
- Answers telephones in a timely manner, manages voice mails, patient messages, and directs calls to appropriate extensions or persons.
- Screens telephone calls for services needed and directs patient to appropriate services if not provided at the General Surgery Clinic office.
- Takes vitals of patients, updates medication lists, medical history and other assigned tasks for chart requirements throughout the patient visit. Cross trains to fill in/assist the medical assistant/nurse as needed to maintain clinic function.
- Collects patient payments as appropriate.
- Enters and maintains information/charges/orders/documentation in/on Whiteboard/EMR’s as appropriate and in a timely manner.
- Obtains preauthorizations in a timely manner and posts updates to the appropriate whiteboard, sends emails and/or makes notes in EMR as appropriate.
Performs other duties as assigned.
