RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver comprehensive nursing care using the nursing process and evidence-based practices.
  • Develop and revise patient care plans based on ongoing assessment and patient/family input.
  • Perform admission assessments, skin assessments, and regular documentation of patient conditions.
  • Administer medications, IVs, and perform specialized procedures such as wound care, catheterization, and post-operative support.
  • Respond appropriately to patient status changes and coordinate care with physicians and support staff.
  • Supervise and delegate tasks to Certified Nurse Assistants and other support staff.
  • Function as charge nurse as assigned and support the orientation of new staff and student nurses.
  • Support safety initiatives, infection control protocols, and hospital quality improvement activities.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

  • An active Registered Nurse license with the State of Alaska is required.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
  • PALS required within 6 months (specialty certifications required for OB/ICU roles).
  • At least one year of experience in an acute care or medical-surgical unit preferred (or willingness to train).
  • Strong communication, documentation, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to manage rapidly changing patient conditions and emergency situations effectively.
  • Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) and charting systems.
  • Leadership capabilities to function as a charge nurse or mentor when needed.
  • Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform moderate physical activity including walking, standing, and sitting.


ENVIRONMENT:

The South Peninsula Hospital is a combined 22-bed Acute Care Critical Access Hospital and 28-bed Long Term Care facility located at the southern end of the Kenai Peninsula in South-Central Alaska. The 22-bed Acute Care department includes 2 ICU beds. Nurses experience a close-knit, team-based environment with the flexibility to float between units as needed.
Due to the nature of the work, there is exposure to infectious diseases, bodily fluids, and potential for needle-stick injuries—strict adherence to safety protocols is essential.
