Registered Nurse - Long Term Care

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide comprehensive nursing assessments and direct care using best practices.
- Administer medications, treatments, and therapies while monitoring residents' conditions.
- Supervise, guide, and coordinate care with LPNs, CNAs, and support staff on assigned shifts.
- Document care and respond to changes in residents' status in accordance with facility, state, and federal regulations.
- Participate in resident admissions, discharges, care planning, and quality improvement processes.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
- An active Registered Nurse license with the State of Alaska is required.
- Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association.
- Minimum of one year of experience in geriatric or long-term care nursing preferred.
- Strong communication skills including verbal, written, and computer documentation abilities.
- Ability to calculate dosages, complete medication administration test, and follow clinical protocols.
- Must maintain required CEUs and demonstrate competency in medication and IV therapy.
- Skilled in using EMR and ancillary systems (e.g., Pyxis) and adhering to proper infection control practices.
- Flexibility, patience, compassion, and strong organizational skills are essential.
- Physical Requirement: Ability to lift up to 35 pounds and perform tasks involving prolonged walking, standing, stooping, and sitting.
ENVIRONMENT:
South Peninsula Hospital's Long Term Care facility is located in the scenic community of Homer, Alaska, surrounded by mountains, ocean views, and abundant wildlife. This 28-bed skilled nursing unit is part of a larger Critical Access Hospital and offers a supportive team environment focused on resident-centered care.
Staff may be exposed to common healthcare hazards, including infectious diseases, blood-borne pathogens, and physical strain, but are equipped with tools such as mechanical lifts and provided with training and protective equipment to ensure safety.
