POSITION PURPOSE:
This position is part of a team-based approach in providing patient-centered care. The Women's Health Registered Nurse utilizes the nursing process to plan and provide patient care to obstetric, gynecologic, and newborn patients at the Women's Health Services Clinic (WHS) according to established standards and practices.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
The Women’s Health Registered Nurse provides women's health patient care as outlined in this position description. Standards for nursing practice have been established by the Alaska State Board of Nursing, state statute, American Nurses Association and the American Association of Office Nurses. The Women’s Health Registered Nurse provides care to clients of the Women's Health Services Clinic/South Peninsula Hospital (WHS/SPH) in accordance with established practice standards and state and federal regulations. The Women’s Health Registered Nurse performs all of the activities required to provide women's health patient care in the clinic setting and works in other areas as appropriate based on experience and training. This includes inpatient triage, antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, post-operative GYN and other areas as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
- Requires a current license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Alaska.
- Must have a current BLS certification
- AWHONN intermediate Fetal Heart Rate Monitoring certification, within 6 months of hire.
- Speaking, listening, and basic writing skills are required to communicate with others, and to document the care given.
- Numerical ability is required to calculate drug dosages.
ENVIRONMENT:
Women's Health Services Clinic/South Peninsula Hospital is a combined 22 bed critical access hospital, 28 bed long term care facility, orthopedic, women’s health, and family practice clinics located at the southern end of the Kenai Peninsula. The position requires walking, standing for extended periods, stooping and the ability to lift 30 pounds. Persons in this position are exposed to infectious diseases, including blood-borne pathogens, muscle strains, falls, and needle stick injuries. Generally, physical demands are moderate and work is performed inside. Working hours may fluctuate based on scheduling needs, patient census, mandatory meetings, education and community events.
