RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct regular safety rounds throughout hospital and campus facilities.
- Perform monthly checks on fire extinguishers and emergency stations.
- Respond to safety and security incidents, assisting in conflict resolution and de-escalation.
- Complete assigned work orders from the Facilities Department.
- Maintain clear, professional communication with hospital staff, patients, vendors, and inspectors.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
- Must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or GED.
- Basic computer and communication skills required.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and IAHSS Basic Certification within 6 months of hire.
- Prior experience in security, law enforcement, military, or emergency services preferred.
- Strong skills in de-escalation and conflict resolution.
- Must be able to read and understand English and follow verbal/written instructions.
- Physically able to complete rounds and pass a Job Function Test.
- Detail-oriented and able to work calmly under pressure.
ENVIRONMENT:
South Peninsula Hospital is a 22-bed Critical Access Hospital with an attached Long Term Care Unit and Level IV Trauma Center, also supporting multiple off-campus clinics. Security Officers cover all these areas and should expect frequent walking and varied work locations. Though typically a day-shift position, the role may require coverage during nights, weekends, or emergencies to ensure 24/7 safety.
Job Hazards: Exposure to unpredictable situations and potentially combative individuals may occur and requires a calm, alert, and physically capable response.
