The Senior Accountant’s primary duties are to maintain the accuracy and integrity of South Peninsula Hospital’s financial records while assisting the CFO and the Controller with day-to-day analytical needs of financial data.


SPH is a 22-bed Critical Access Hospital with a 28-bed Long Term Facility located at the southern end of the Kenai Peninsula.  The working environment is pleasant, clean, and well-maintained. The position requires a high degree of mobility moving between areas of the hospital including occasional trips between campus buildings on and off site of the main hospital grounds. Physical demands are moderate and may include sitting for prolonged periods, standing, walking, stooping, and occasional lifting. The schedule for this position is eight hour shifts, Monday through Friday but may fluctuate based on departmental needs.

  • Minimum – Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is preferred but will consider an Associate’s degree with an additional 4-years of relevant experience. 

Work Experience:

  • Three (3) years of previous work experience in accounting is required.
  • Experience working in a healthcare system is preferred.
  • Experience in computerized accounting systems is required.

  15. Works closely with management, and CFO particularly, on personnel and confidential matters.


  1. Maintains accurate financial records for the facility.
  2. Plans and organizes work activity to complete schedule assignments on time.
  3. Prepares the following:
    1. Monthly general and standard journal entries
    2. Creates and processes all general journal entries as delegated by the CFO or Controller
    3. Monthly account reconciliations
    4. Cost report schedules
    5. Year-end audit schedules
    6. Federal and State regulatory reports
    7. Annual budget documents in collaboration with CFO and controller
    8. Analysis of budget schedule for accuracy
    9. Assists SPH in ensuring compliance with changes in regulations, processes, and accounting changes.
    10. Serves on the Revenue Cycle Committee and UM Committee as needed.
    11. Prepares necessary committee reports.
    12. Assists with the following:
      1. Patient accounting activity as necessary.
      2. Special projects as requested by the CFO or Controller
      3. Year-end inventory process and reconciliation of SPH balance sheet accounts as needed and requested.
      4. Acts in a confidential capacity to the CFO who formulates, determines or effectuates management policies.
      5. Assists Managers with budget variances.
      6. Serves as liaison for CFO or Controller as deemed necessary and with written authority.
      7. Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and SPH’s regulations, laws, and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
      8. Performs other related duties as assigned.
