POSITION PURPOSE:
The Sleep Center Technician documents and performs in-patient and out-patient sleep studies (diagnostic, therapeutic, split night and pediatric) throughout the night. Some day shifts possible on an as needed basis. The technician relays pertinent information to the Sleep Center Manager.
NATURE AND SCOPE
The Sleep Center Technician reports to the Sleep Center Manager. This individual works with the sleep center manager and medical director to assure all pertinent information is available for collection, analysis and interpretation of the sleep study.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
- Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
- Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
- Maintain a current BCLS certification.
- Previous medical experience preferred.
- This position also prefers the technician possess one of the following credentials:
- RPSGT*
- CPSGT *
- RST**
- RRT-SDS***
- CRT-SDS***.
- If the technician does not hold one of the above credentials, the technician must complete all eligibility requirements and obtain one credential within the time period outlined. ****
- This individual must possess the ability to read, analyze and interpret sleep studies, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulation.
- Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure and have the ability to calculate figures with accuracy. The position requires understanding of fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations. Possess competency working with computers and numerous computer software programs including but not limited to Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, scanning, file transfer, file upload and file download.
- Is professional, exercises sound judgment, and utilizes appropriate assessment skills.

****Must obtain one of the following:
- CPSGT credential within 9 months and the RPSGT credential within 18 months of hire date
- RST credential within 12 months
- RRT-SDS within 12 months
- CRT-SDS within 12 months
- If CPSGT, the RPSGT credential must be obtained within 18 months of hire.
ENVIRONMENT:
South Peninsula Sleep Center is located outside of the hospital facility. It is a 2 bed facility located within two (2) blocks of the hospital in Homer, Alaska. The working environment is quiet and clean and equipment is well maintained. The Sleep Lab Technician may be exposed to chemical vapors, infectious agents including blood borne pathogens. Generally physical demands are light and work is performed inside in a controlled environment. Work hours are predominately scheduled at night and are varied, and may be on-call, as needed. The sleep technician schedule is a 10-12 hour shift and the technician is usually the only staff scheduled for a shift.
