POSITION PURPOSE:
Staff Pharmacists are registered pharmacists responsible for providing pharmaceutical services and expert advice to patients, physicians, nurses and other hospital employees.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE;

  • The Pharmacist must be a graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy and licensed in the State of Alaska.
  • To qualify for the position of Pharmacist the pharmacist must have attained a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D), and completed a residency program or have 2 years of hospital pharmacy experience.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  1. Provides supervision of Pharmacy Technicians. Assists with employee performance evaluations.
  2. Plans, implements, and evaluates processes to:
    1. Facilitate the use of clinical judgment and decision-making skills in order to bring multiple perspectives into the interpretation of situations and problems encountered.
    2. Assure efficient use of human and material resources.
    3. Implement outcome measures to elevate effectiveness of care.
    4. assure communication techniques
    5. Consulting with physician and nursing staff concerning selection availability, form, appropriate dose, side effects and incompatibilities of drugs.
    6. Compounding and preparing of ordered Pharmaceuticals
    7. Monitoring of Pharmacist to dose preparations.
    8. Supervise pharmacy technicians when Pharmacist On Duty.
    9. Provide administrative assistance in completion of Quality Assurance Program, Safety Programs, Environmental Protection Program, Infection Control program, MSDS Program, Inventory Control Program. Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.

      10. ENVIRONMENT:
      South Peninsula Hospital is a facility consisting of a 22 bed acute care hospital, 9-room emergency department, and 28 bed long term care facility located on the southern end of the Kenai Peninsula. All medications used at South Peninsula Hospital are obtained and secured through the Pharmacy department. The Pharmacy department consists of a secured main pharmacy center and clean room for compounding of sterile IV compounds. The medication distribution system consists of Pyxis medication distribution stations located in all primary nursing areas and surgical suites.  The position requires walking, standing for extended periods, and the ability to lift 35 pounds. Professionals working in this area must understand personal safety procedures for protection from hazardous medications and medication security.
